My Story

My name is Diana Tohar, and I’m the artist behind Oridea Creates. Based in Calgary, I create colorful, whimsical paper art that transforms simple materials into something meaningful. My journey with art began during one of the most challenging times in my life. When my son was diagnosed with cancer as a baby, my world turned upside down. Art became my refuge—a way to process the fear, grief, and hope that came with his battle.

Oridea Creates was born from this experience, its name symbolizing the beauty of originality and the power of ideas to bring light into dark times. Each piece I make tells a story, often deeply personal, and reflects resilience, loss, and hope. Using textured papers, recycled materials, and vibrant colors, my work is a labor of love that I hope resonates with others.

Through my art, I aim to share not just my story but a sense of connection, inspiration, and joy. Whether it’s my art calendar or my paper art classes, my creations are a reminder of the beauty that can emerge from life’s most challenging moments.
